Junior Programs

The New York Athletic Club offers a wide variety
of athletic programs for children of members.


The New York Athletic Club's Junior Programs are led by top-class instructors who teach sport-specific skills and techniques along with the universal lessons of teamwork, etiquette and sportsmanship.

  • City House
    • Junior Fencing (ages 6-12)

      This program focuses on strength and conditioning, as well as the footwork and bouting needed to move into a competitive program. Coaches include former world champions, national champions and highly experienced amateurs. Children will learn proper form, technique and etiquette.

      Junior Squash (ages 8-15)

      Lessons and clinics ensure that children learn the game in a fun, disciplined and professional environment. During clinics, children are paired up for match-play and drills to gain experience in real match play.

      Saturday Morning Program (ages 7-16)

      The fall SMP runs from October to March at the City House. Children experience the fun of athletics while learning teamwork and social skills. They receive basic through advanced instruction in various sports under the direction of top-class coaches and athletes. Sports include martial arts, track and field, basketball, fencing, swimming and more.

      Basketball Clinic

      From beginner to advanced, all who attend this clinic will improve their basketball game. This instructional clinic will work on dribbling skills, court movement and game playing ability.

  • Travers Island
    • Pre-team Swimming (ages 6-8)

      Children who are learning to swim and who can be in the water without flotation devices are eligible. They will learn proper balance and stroke technique from leading area coaches.

      Swimming and Diving team (ages 7-17)

      The program is designed to challenge swimmers and divers in a dynamic and skill-focused manner. The team is a part of the Westchester County Swim Conference and competes in five dual meets, the NYAC Invitational and county and conference championships.

      Junior Tennis Academy (ages 5-16)

      Our professional teaching staff uses contemporary instructional methods to teach participants the correct techniques, game fundamentals and tennis strategies. Individual and group instruction allows children to develop their game at an appropriate pace. All skill levels are welcome.

      Junior Tennis Clinics (ages 4-13)

      Clinics are a terrific way for your child to develop his or her tennis skills. The instruction encompasses serves, ground strokes, volleys, spins and the rules of the game. Sessions are geared toward all playing levels.

      Winged Foot Day Camp (ages 5-14)

      Children receive instruction in a variety of sports and arts and crafts, gaining a full camp experience. Campers also take part in off-campus field trips to sporting events, amusement parks and more. For children over the age of nine, elective activities are offered during portions of camp for an additional fee. Electives can include gymnastics, golf, tennis and sailing.

      Junior Sailing (ages 8-17)

      From beginners to racing, this program offers fundamental skills, sailing maneuvers and the water safety instruction that can lead to a lifetime of water enjoyment. Professional, certified instructors use a combination of classroom training and on-water instruction.


      Saturday Morning Program at Travers Island(ages 7-16)

      The Travers Island SMP runs during the summer months. Children experience the fun of athletics while learning teamwork and social skills. They receive basic through advanced instruction in various sports under the direction of top-class coaches and athletes. Sports at TI include team handball, track and field, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and more.

      Water Polo (ages 9-17)

      The water polo program is coached by members of the NYAC’s adult water polo team. Beginners with basic swimming ability are encouraged to come and play. Children learn the rules of the game and develop their skills. Games are played against other area teams in Westchester and Connecticut.

      Soccer Academy (ages 6-11)

      The NYAC soccer program teaches such skills as ball control, passing and dribbling. Using fun drills and field activities, each child will learn from and enjoy their experience.
