Judo Club
The Judo Intra Club's main purpose is to promote the sport of Judo. An Olympic sport since 1964, Judo is a martial art that teaches the applications of balance, body mechanics, strength, fitness, throws and grappling techniques. The Judo Club is an organization where a high level of competition exists while at the same time supporting the development of fellow members. Adults and children alike can learn and benefit from this challenging sport. Led by Yoichiro Matsumura, 8th degree and one of the highest ranking instructors in the United States, the club benefits from Matsumura's experience and intricate knowledge of the sport. The NYAC has many national and international champions, and Olympic medalist.  In fact, all USA Olympic medalist in Judo have come from the NYAC since 1992, including world champions Jimmy Pedro and Kayla Harrison.  There is no doubt the Judo Club will continue to prosper.  Many NYAC members who have never stepped foot on the mats before have joined and learned the sport through the superior efforts of the program and its participants.  The NYAC Judo Team hosts an internationally acclaimed tournament, the New York Open, which features Judo teams from over a dozen countries who come annually to compete here at the NYAC.
