The etiquette of our Yacht Club is set forth in these Rules and Regulations to fully satisfy members social and yachting needs. Members can assist in accomplishing that goal by following the spirit and intent of these rules.
Any member violating these rules and regulations and/or the New York Athletic Club Vessel Berthing/Storage Agreement, will be subject to disciplinary action.
Complaints will be heard by the NYACYC when presented in writing to the Yacht Club Office Manager or the NYACYC Executive Committee. When approaching the Club by sea, use VHF Channel 9 to alert our dock personnel to request assistance as necessary. When one of the Flag Officers of the Yacht Club is present and on duty, his/her flag will be flying from the flag staff. Feel free to contact the Flag Officer or Waterfront Manager with any questions or difficulties.
1. Privileges of the Yacht Club are available to members, their spouses, and their children under the age of 21.
2. Non-members are not allowed to use a member's boat or the Yacht Club facilities without the member being present or on board.
3. A bulletin board located at the launch house displays Yacht Club events and other items of club interest. The bulletin board is not for member's personal use.
4. Cars must be parked in the designated parking area and within the painted lines on the ground.
5. Cars can unload during a brief stay in the designated loading area, but cannot be parked or operated there or beyond this point for any extended period.
6. The main function of the dock personnel is to assist in the handling of our member's boats and providing launch service. These tasks must take precedent over all other duties. However, their services are available to help with heavy parcels.
7. Common courtesy to other members requires discretion in the use of radio and television. No excessive noise will be permitted after 2300 hours.
8. No dogs or other pets, other than service dogs are allowed on Travers Island. Allowances are made for a pet that is brought directly onto a member's boat. Pets are to be leashed at all times and must be "walked" in the area behind tennis courts #15 - #18. Members must clean up after pet's waste.
9. Refuse in any form must not be left on any dock or Yacht Club area. Many convenient receptacles are provided for this purpose.
10. All electric cables must be physically disconnected from the power plug if left on the dock during a boat's absence.
11 . All hoses must have an acceptable automatic shut-off nozzle. Water must not be allowed to flow wastefully.
12. The allowable time of any member or guest boat on the service dock must not exceed 120 minutes, and no boat shall be left unattended. The gas dock shall be occupied for fueling purposes only, unless the boat is in distress. A charge of $200.00 per night will be assessed for boats left overnight at either the gas or the service dock. The NYACYC may use his discretion to move a boat left unattended at either the gas or service dock to the owner's moorings or slip and a charge will be made for this service.
13. Boats shall not remain at the service float or gas dock overnight except in a true emergency. A member must immediately notify the NYACYC or dock personnel if a vessel is in distress and request permission to berth said vessel in a location other than the assigned slip or float. In this instance the NYACYC may use its discretion to berth the distressed vessel in the service or gas dock. No service charge will be assessed.
14. Unoccupied slips may be available for use by other yacht club members. Use of unoccupied slips, by other than the person assigned to the slip, will be made on a first come-first serve basis. Requests to temporarily berth at an available slip should be submitted to the NYACYC. A list of requests will be maintained and the NYACYC will assign boats to suitable available slips at the prevailing daily rate, with no annual aggregate cost limit. No one vessel may stay in a slip for more than fourteen consecutive days if there is another member on the wait list. To extend the fourteen day limitation, permission must be obtained from the NYACYC.
15. Any member using an unauthorized slip, mooring or float space, or overstaying the authorized time for the fourteen day limit will have their boat boarded and moved. Any associated costs, plus a twenty-five dollar surcharge will be assessed.

17. To signal the dock personnel for launch service a member may sound three prolonged horn blasts; display The International Code Flag "T" or call shore radio station VHF Channel 9.
18. In an emergency (day time) sound horn continuously, if practical, or call shore radio station VHF Channel 9. At night, sound horn and flash navigational and/or spotlight until assistance arrives.
19. If assistance is required in docking a boat, a loud signal blast will alert the dock personnel or call shore radio station on VHF Channel 9. To ensure the safety of all vessels and the availability of dock personnel, vessels will need to alert dock personnel at least ten minutes prior to required assistance.
20. Gasoline, diesel fuel and ice are available during hours when dock personnel are on duty.
21. A speed of four miles per hour and without wake must not be exceeded in our marina and mooring area.
22. The service, marina and floatdocks must be kept clear of all gear not in float boxes. Only float boxes and stairs are permitted on the floats and docks. Float boxes and stairs must be approved and secured by the NYACYC and must be kept in good physical and cosmetic condition. All stationary stairs and float boxes must be approved and secured by the NYACYC. Float boxes shall not occupy a space greater than the width of your assigned slip or float and shall not obstruct the safe passageway of such slip or float.
23. An open flame of any kind is strictly prohibited in the marina. The use of stoves, spaceheaters, or other equipment which are fueled by wood, coal, charcoal, propane, alcohol, kerosene or any other volatile fuel is strictly prohibited. The use of electrical equipment which may emit an open park capable of causing a fire or explosion is strictly prohibited.
24. Swimming and diving are not permitted at any time on or from Yacht Club docks. Cleaning of fish is not permitted in the Yacht Club area.
25. All sailboat rigging must be secured to prevent "slapping" noise. Similarly, power boats should not run their engines or generators for more than 15 minutes while standing in the marina during off hours.
26. The Yacht Club launches must be operated by authorized personnel only.
27. Gratuities to dock personnel are strictly forbidden.
28. A copy of the Yacht Club Constitution is available to each member upon request.
29. All boats must be launched into the water by June 1st of each year. Boats not launched by June 1st, shall be relocated at the discretion of the Yard Manager with a service charge to the owner. In addition, the following charges will prevail:
50¢ per foot per day for the first 8 days.
$1.00 per foot per day for day 9 through day 15.
$5.00 per foot per day thereafter.
In addition to the above charges, owners who have not launched their boats by June 1st may face disciplinary action.
30. A member who hauls his boat for repairs or servicing after June 1st of any year shall have the right to store his boat in the yard without charge for a period not to exceed 14 days. The 14 day period may be extended if the repair work or service work has been assigned to the Yacht Club and the work has not been completed. The daily storage charge for each day after the 14 day period, or the date of the completion of the work by the Yacht Club, whichever is later, shall be $18 per day.
31. There shall be no pro-rated charges for any dues or fees with the exception of a member's acceptance of a newly offered slip or float position after commissioning as approved by the NYACYC based on the following:
1) Assignments from Commissioning to June 15 – Full charge.
1a) If applicable, float members and launch service- Full credit.
2) Assignments from June 16 to July 15 – 25% Discount
2a) If applicable, float members to slip locations – charged 25% of Float Fee and Launch Service.
3) Assignments from July 16 to August 15 – 50% Discount.
3a) If applicable, float members to slip locations – charged 50% of Float Fee and Launch Service.
4) Assignments from August 16 to September 15 – 75% Discount.
4a) If applicable, float members to slip locations – charged 75% of Float Fee and Launch Service
5) Assignments from September 16 to Decommissioning – No fee or credit.
6) No credit on mooring permits.
32. All yachts using Yacht Club facilities must be seaworthy and kept in good mechanical, physical and cosmetic condition.
33. There shall be no major work performed on yachts berthed at slips and floats during the commissioning season. Major work is the involvement of airborne polluting chores such as sanding, spraying, painting, etc. and noise generating activity.
34. All outside contractors employed by a member must register with the Yard Manager before servicing any yacht.
35. All owners who hire outside contractors must produce an acceptable Certificate of Insurance prior to the commencement of work.
36. No spray painting shall be done on Yacht Club premises.
37. All boats using Yacht Club facilities must maintain liability insurance in the minimum amount of $300,000.00 per occurrence and must name the New York Athletic Club of the City of New York, Inc. as an additional insured and covered on a primary basis. A certificate evidencing such insurance coverage must be forwarded to the Yacht Club every year by the producer prior to any use of the Yacht Club facilities.
38. All boats berthed at the NYACYC can only be owned by a New York Athletic Club Yacht Club member; proof of which must be on file with the Yacht Club. The member shall disclose any lien holders, partners or other persons having interest in the vessel.
39. The acceptable noise level emanating from a vessel's exhaust, whether power or sail, is regulated by the New Rochelle Noise Control Ordinance and shall not exceed 80 decibels measured at 50 feet from the vessel by a suitable measuring device.
40. Hydro-hoists or any device that holds a vessel above water are not allowed at any location at the Yacht Club and Personal Water Crafts (PWC's) are not permitted to be kept in the marina waters.
41. A seniority list of current Yacht Club members shall be kept up to date by the NYACYC.
42. The NYACYC has complete discretion in determining whether any vessel can be safely hauled or launched based on preserving the structure of the vessel and the capability of the yard equipment and general safety overall.
Wooden boats must provide a disclaimer for any damage that may occur due to the hauling or launching by the yard travel lift.
43. In the event of the death of a member who has an assigned slip or float, a surviving spouse or child who is a member of the New York Athletic Club and the New York Athletic Yacht Club may continue the uninterrupted slip or float assignment of the deceased member, but in all other respects the seniority of the surviving spouse or child shall be based solely on his or her date of membership in the Yacht Club.
44. In addition to the NYAC Yacht Club Rules and Regulations and Articles of Constitution, members are directed to adhere to the New York Athletic Club Vessel Berthing/Storage Agreement. NYAC Yacht Club Rules and Regulations may from time to time be amended or supplemented.
45. No car washing is allowed on Yacht Club property.
46. If a member wants to use the dinghy dock permanently, a written request must be submitted to NYAYC Assignment Committee for assignment of a space on the dinghy dock.
47. A dinghy/tender is allowed in a slip if it is not longer than the width of the slip and if the dinghy will fit into the slip with no overhang. Dinghy/tenders are not permitted on top of the floats or docks.
48. NYACYC dock personnel are not permitted to use the passenger or work launch to tow or assist in the towing of any boat. Boats in distress should contact the NYACYC and/or dock personnel to assist in making towing arrangements through the Yacht Club yard staff or an outside service.
49. The New York Athletic Club will not be responsible for any damage caused to a boat or for personal injuries and/or damages of any kind occasioned by the presence and/or use of a boat at the NYAC Yacht Club, including injuries or damage caused by weather, vandalism,malicious mischief, fire and other acts of God.
50. "For Sale" signs may not be displayed on vessels. In order to accommodate members wishing to offer their vessel for sale, a book with listings for such vessels shall be maintained in the office of the Yacht Club and during the season a copy shall be maintained in the Launch House.
51. Any member whose membership is suspended and/or terminated by the parent club loses all rights and privileges to all Yacht Club facilities. In the event of reinstatement, the member must reapply for berthing/storage and the application will be regarded as that of a new member.
