 The
Chess Club traces its roots back to the Card Room at the original City
House. The main objective of the Club is to promote the joys of social
and competitive chess. You can always have fun playing while you
challenge your mind and improve your game as well. All New York
Athletic Club members can increase their knowledge of the “game of
kings” whether they are a novice player or a seasoned veteran. The
Chess Club’s 60 plus members meet twice weekly at the City House. Scheduled competitions against other prominent
chess clubs, such as Yale and Harvard, are also held periodically
throughout the year. Socially,
the Club has held, and plans to hold again, a simultaneous chess match
against National Master Bruce Pandolfini. The guru plays 20 or more
challengers at the same time, moving from player to player. Over 70
NYAC members of all abilities gather to enjoy libations while they observe and/or compete in this amazing chess event.
