Dress Code
When visiting the New York Athletic Club and its facilities, please comply with our Dress Code. Your cooperation is appreciated.

City House

Outerwear
Outer coats, raincoats, hats, umbrellas, backpacks or other baggage must be checked in the lobby check room, locker room, or other check facility. Business cases are not permitted in any restaurant, bar, or athletic area. Hats are not permitted in any area of the club unless worn for religious purposes.

Men's Attire
Permitted attire means a business suit and tie, sport jacket with slacks and tie, or sport jacket with slacks, collared shirt, turtleneck or mock turtleneck. Men may dispense with jackets from Friday at 5pm through Monday at 6am. [and on the following holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day and from 5pm on the day preceding such holidays] except in the Main Dining Room. A jacket and tie are always required in the Main Dining Room except for Sunday Brunch, when a jacket and proper collared shirt are permitted.

Women's Attire
Permitted attire refers to business suits, tailored pant or skirt ensembles, and dresses. Open midriff and extremely short hemlines are not permitted.

Footwear
All footwear must be dressy or corporate. Recreational or casual footwear, such as "flip-flops"', sneakers, clogs, and canvas boating shoes are strictly prohibited in all areas of the City House. Athletic footwear is restricted to locker rooms and the athletic areas of the City House.

Informal Attire
Denim clothing is not permitted in the City House. Informal attire or casual wear such as sweat suits, leggings, jean cut pants, shorts of any kind, and T- shirts are prohibited in all areas of the City House except athletic areas. Members and guests in informal attire or attire otherwise not in conformity with the Club's Dress Code including athletic attire must enter and exit through the 58th Street entrance and use the "C" stairway to the athletic elevator on the third floor.

Athletic Attire
Suitable athletic attire and footwear are required for members and guests utilizing athletic facilities. Members and guests in abbreviated dress, such as swim suits, must wear a bathrobe while using the athletic elevator or public halls in the Club.

Children's Attire
Members and guests are responsible for ensuring that their children, ages 8 years or older comply with the Club's dress code. T-shirts, athletic attire, sweats, or jeans are inappropriate except in athletic areas. Sneakers are permitted for children under the age of 8.



Travers Island

Club House Formal Dining:

Gentlemen - Sport jacket with slacks and collared shirt.
Ladies - Business suits or tailored pant ensembles, skirts and dresses. Open midriff and extremely short hemlines are not permitted.


Club House Casual Dining:

Gentlemen - Slacks and a collared shirt. Turtle neck and mock Turtle neck are permitted .
Ladies - Slacks and skirts with a blouse, or dress are permitted. Jeans, five pocket jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sweatpants, sneakers, shower sandals, and sport hats are never allowed.

Grill Room/Patio:
Men - Shorts and a shirt are required, a boxer type bathing suit is permitted.
Women - Shorts and a top are required, a bathing suit with a cover is permitted.
Footwear is required at all times. See-thru or mesh tops are not permitted.


Club House Cocktail Lounge:
During the in-season (Memorial Day - Labor Day) the Dress Code is the same as for the Casual Dining. During the off- season, jeans, t-shits, sweatsuits and sneakers are permitted until 5:30pm, after which the Casual Dining Dress Code applies.
