Rowing


Rowing was on the Olympic schedule at the 1896 Games, but it was canceled due to bad weather. Rowing reappeared for the 1900 Games in Paris.

1st - Lightweight four at the Final Qualification Regatta, 2011. 1st - Lightweight eight at the Head of the Charles Regatta, 2011. 5th - Lightweight eight at the World Rowing Championships, 2011. Co-founder of Chocomize, an on-line company where people create their own chocolate bar.



David Banks
Men's Eight
DOB: August 30th, 1983
Residence: Berkley, CA/ Princeton, NJ
First-time Olympian. 1st -men’s eight at the Final Qualification Regatta, 2012. 6th - men’s eight at the 2010 World Championships. 5th - men’s pair at the World Rowing Championships, 2009. USA Rowing Male Athlete of the Year, 2009. Studied construction management at Stanford with a view to effecting change in developing communities.



Caroline Lind
Women's Eight
DOB: October 11th, 1982
Residence: Princeton, NJ
London is her second Games. Gold medalist, women’s eight, 2008, Beijing. 1st - 2011 World Championships, women’s eight, Bled, Slovenia. Member of the US eight that set a world record (5:54.17) at World Cup II in Lucerne in May. Graduated from Phillips Academy in 2002 and Princeton University in 2006. In 2003, became a national debutante at The National Debutante Cotillion and Thanksgiving Ball in Washington, D.C. Appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show with other US Olympic athletes in 2008. Obtained an MBA from Rider University, in NJ.



Taylor Ritzel
Women's Eight
DOB: September 4th, 1988
Residence: Princeton, NJ
Member of the US eight that set a world record (5:54.17) at World Cup II in Lucerne in May. Gold medalist, women’s eight, 2011 World Championships. Won the Remenham Challenge Cup and set the course record at the 2011 Henley Royal Regatta. Gold medalist in the eight at the 2010 World Under-23 Championships. Second in the eight at the 2009 World Under-23 Championships. Grandfather was the head coach of the Denver Broncos. History degree from Yale. Would like to pursue a career in finance or non-profit work.



Caryn Davies
Women's Eight
DOB: April 14th, 1982
Residence: Princeton, NJ
London is her third Olympic Games. 2nd - women’s eight, Athens, 2004. Ist - women’s eight, Beijing, 2008. Four world championships gold medals. Five World Cup gold medals. Ranked number five in the world by FISU, the international rowing association, in 2011. Member of the US eight that set a world record (5:54.17) at World Cup II in Lucerne in May. 1st - Princess Grace Challenge Cup at the Henley Regatta, 2011. Hails from Ithaca, NY. Has a psychology degree from Harvard. Attending Columbia Law School. Vice President of the US Olympians’ Association.

2nd - World Rowing Championship, quad-sculls, 2011. 1st - 2009 Head of the Charles Regatta, women’s-double & women’s-four. 5th - Beijing Olympics, double-sculls, 2008, partnering with NYAC teammate, Ellen Tomek.





Erin Cafaro
Women's eight

: June 9th, 1983
Residence: Princeton, NJ/ Berkeley, CA
Olympic gold medalist, women’s eight, Beijing, 2008. Under-23 World Championships gold medalist, women’s four, 2005. Bronze medal, 2006, and gold medal, 2007, at the World Championships, women’s four. Gold medals, women’s pair and eight, 2009 World Championships; this was the first time a US pair had won an international championship. For that victory, coupled with the gold medal in the eight, Erin and her W2 partner were selected as the 2009 FISA World Crew of the Year.
