Triathlon




The first triathlon was held in Mission Bay, San Diego in 1974 with 46 athletes competing.

Sarah Groff and Gwen Jorgensen were selected due to their top-nine finishes at last year's
World Championship in London.

Sarah Groff
DOB: November 27th, 1981
Residence: Hanover, NH
First time Olympian. 3rd in the 2011 ITU World Championship Series rankings (1st American), the best American ranking in the three year history of the Series. Third at the 2011 World Championship Series race in Kitzbühel, the first-ever podium finish by a US woman. Seventh at the 2011 ITU World Championship in London, earning her a spot on the US Olympic team. Born in Cooperstown, NY, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.





Gwen Jorgensen
DOB: April 25th, 1986
Residence: Milwaukee, WI
Eleventh in the 2011 ITU World Championship Series rankings. Second at the 2011 ITU World Championship Series race in London, earning a spot on the US Olympic team. Only turned to the triathlon fully in 2010. Claimed silver medal that year at the World University Triathlon Championships in Spain and was designated USA Triathlon Rookie of the Year. Has a Master’s Degree in Accounting.
