Travers Island

An idyllic setting, tennis courts, a marina, outdoor swimming pool, plus casual and fine dining - all nestled on the shores of the Long Island Sound.

Named for Wall Street tycoon and yachtsman, William Travers, who guided its purchase in 1888, Travers Island is the NYAC's summer home on the Long Island Sound, offering over 30 acres of handsomely landscaped facilities.

The focal points are the Club House, the salt water swimming pool and accompanying cabanas, the tennis courts, all-weather playing field, Yacht Club, Fitness Center and Rowing House. Travers Island extends the range of NYAC sports to include tennis, platform tennis, rowing, yachting, outdoor swimming, rugby, soccer and lacrosse.

For summer fun there are few better places than poolside at Travers Island. The salt water pool overlooking the Long Island Sound is simply irresistible. Travers Island offers an extensive calendar of fun-filled events for the whole family.

The NYAC Day Camp extends throughout the summer and offers children a wide range of sporting activities and field trips. Tennis, swimming, running, sailing, movies and Major League Baseball games are all on the program, ensuring a summer packed with fitness and fun.

The tennis season opens in mid-April on 15 Har-Tru and three lighted all-weather Deco-Turf courts, with the Yacht Club opening soon after. Both provide a season full of activities, social events and fun.

in addition to our recreational facilities, Travers Island offers exquisite dining in the Club House, on the Patio Terrace, in the Cocktail Lounge and in the Ballroom. For casual dining, few locations are more inviting than the snack bar adjacent to the Tennis House. You can also dine on the Patio, alongside the outdoor swimming pool, or at the always fun Tiki Bar.
